The National Consultative Commission on Human Rights is the national institution for the promotion and protection of human rights, accredited to the United Nations. Founded in 1947 at the initiative of Nobel Peace Prize winner René Cassin, the CNCDH is a pluralistic and independent institution. Its mission is to: - Advise public authorities on respect for human rights in France; - Monitor France's compliance with its international commitments regarding human rights and international humanitarian law; - Promote dialogue between public authorities and civil society; - Participate in education and training on respect for human rights; - Alert public opinion and raise awareness among the general public.
