The Arboretum Research Scholar Award gives scholars a unique opportunity to jumb- start their research program and guide the direction of their future research with the support of the Arnold Arboretum. The Arboretum Research Scholar Award supports researchers who utilize the myraid resources of the Arnold Arboretum to investigate any area of science.

• Awards of up to $10,000 are granted to support research expenses and/or travel expenses associated with the proposed research.

Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University Research Scholar Award Requirements

• Applications are sought from all scholars.
• Preference will be given to scholars visiting the Arboretum and in residence for a portion of their research with the goal of gaining connections within the framework of a top-tier academic enironment to drive future careers and research initiatives.

Application Date and Process

Applicants must submit:

• A cover letter.

• A 1–2 page research statement explaining the project, how Arboretum resources will be used, and how the award will support career and research goals (references excluded from page limit).

• A 1‑page research budget detailing research and travel costs.

• A project timeline with anticipated start and end dates.

• A curriculum vitae.

• Two letters of recommendation, submitted directly by referees via an emailed link. Applicants must request these through the online system (except faculty or senior scientists).
