About HKU Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme

The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong has established the Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme to strengthen international academic collaboration and promote knowledge exchange between scholars from the Global South and the university’s academic community. The initiative is designed to enhance global research impact through cross-cultural engagement, interdisciplinary cooperation, and shared scholarly development.

Benefits of HKU Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme

Each awarded fellow will receive a remuneration package consisting of:

• Economy class return air tickets of up to HK$10,000 (on a reimbursement basis); and
• A per-diem allowance at a daily rate of HK$1,500, inclusive of accommodation, for the entire fellowship period in Hong Kong.

HKU Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme Requirements

The fellowship is open to experienced academic professionals who meet the following requirements:

• Applicants must be professoriate staff affiliated with universities or comparable institutions
• Applicants must be based in countries classified under the Global South
• Preference may be given to early-career or junior scholars with strong research potential
• Applicants must demonstrate strong academic and professional achievements

• Eligible candidates are expected to have established research profiles and a commitment to collaborative scholarship.
