About FRIAS - Early Career Fellowship Programme

The FRIAS Early Career Fellowship Programme 2027/28 supports early career researchers from all nationalities and academic disciplines to conduct independent research projects within the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) at the University of Freiburg. The fellowship provides researchers with funding, academic resources, and an international research environment to develop innovative projects and strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration.

• Monthly salary: Approximately €5,300 before tax and social security contributions.

FRIAS - Early Career Fellowship Programme Requirements

The programme is open to early career researchers who meet the required academic and professional criteria.

Applicants must:

• Hold a completed doctoral degree.
• Have no more than eight years of postdoctoral experience.
• Be from any nationality and any location.
• Be based in Germany, Freiburg, or another country.
• Have research or study experience at an academic institution outside the country where they completed their first academic degree.

Additional eligibility requirements include:

• At least six months of international academic experience.
• At least four peer-reviewed publications since 1 January 2022.
• A research project that can be supported at the University of Freiburg.

Eligible time extensions may be considered for documented periods of:

• Family leave.
• Medical leave.
• Non-academic professional activities.
