About Earth Journalism Network Story Grants on Fisheries Transparency

EJN is offering five story grants with support from the Oak Foundation to help build the capacity of journalists to report on and improve their coverage of fisheries transparency issues. In addition to funding, selected journalists will receive support from experienced mentors throughout the story production process.

  • Five story grants available, each worth $1,500 USD.

  • Grants issued in February 2026; stories must be published by October 31, 2026.

  • Selected journalists will receive mentorship support during production.

Earth Journalism Network Story Grants on Fisheries Transparency Requirements

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

The grants are open to:

  • Professional journalists in any medium (print, digital, radio, television, multimedia)
  • Journalists based in any coastal country
  • Reporters with experience covering environmental, fisheries, or governance issues

Additional Eligibility Notes

  • Applicants with interest in cross-border or transboundary stories are particularly encouraged
  • Groups or teams of journalists may apply through a single lead applicant
  • The lead applicant is responsible for communication and fund management

  • Applications should provide a detailed budget in an Excel spreadsheet with justification for the amount requested. Download the budget template now by clicking on this link.
  • All applicants are required to provide a signed letter of support from their editor, explicitly stating that the media outlet will publish the stories produced as a result of this grant.
  • Applicants will also need to submit two samples of stories or links to relevant work. 

Note: You'll be asked to upload these supporting documents once you start the application process, so please have them handy.
