The Fulbright Bulgarian Leaders Grants offer a powerful opportunity for talented Bulgarian students to pursue advanced degrees at top U.S. universities while contributing to national growth upon their return. Up to $100,000 in total funding

Opportunity to study at top 15 U.S. university programs in any discipline

Up to seven grants awarded yearly
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
Bulgarian citizenship
Admission (or strong intent to apply) to top 15 U.S. university programs
MA or PhD track in any recognized academic discipline
Commitment to return to Bulgaria for three years after finishing studies
Ability to manage independent applications, tests, and required documents
1. Research Eligible Programs
Identify U.S. universities ranked among the top 15 in the candidate’s field.
2. Prepare Application Materials
Academic transcripts
Standardized tests (e.g., GRE/GMAT/TOEFL, depending on the program)
Letters of recommendation
Personal essays and research statements
3. Apply Directly to U.S. Universities
Submit all applications through official university portals.
4. Submit Fulbright Bulgarian Leaders Grant Application
Provide all required documentation, including proof of application to eligible universities.
5. Attend Webinars (Optional)
Fulbright Bulgaria offers general guidance webinars on graduate admissions.
6. Await Selection
Up to seven candidates are chosen per cycle.
7. Commit to Return Rule
Selected fellows sign an agreement to return to Bulgaria for three years after completing their degrees.
