About IJP - German-Northern European Programme

The German-Northern European Programme provides journalists with an international fellowship opportunity to explore political, social, cultural, and economic connections between Germany, Nordic countries, and Baltic states. The programme supports cross-border journalistic exchange through travel, research, professional collaboration, and knowledge sharing.

Benefits of IJP - German-Northern European Programme

• The German scholarship holders will receive a one-time payment of 3,800 euros.
• The amount is intended to cover part of the travel costs, food and accommodation.
• A personal contribution is expected. There is no provision for remuneration for work on site.

IJP - German-Northern European Programme Requirements

The programme is open to journalists who meet the following criteria:

• Age between 18 and 45 years.
• Working as a freelancer, trainee, or editor.
• Affiliated with German media outlets.
• Interested in international journalism and cross-border cooperation.

Language requirements:

• Knowledge of Nordic languages is not required.
• Applicants from Northern Europe do not need German language skills.
• Functional English ability is required.

Eligible Applicants’ Professional Background

Applicants may include:

• Freelance journalists.
• Journalism trainees.
• Newspaper, magazine, online, radio, or television editors.
• Media professionals working on political, cultural, economic, or social topics.

Candidates should demonstrate interest in reporting on international relations and regional cooperation.

The deadline is August 1st for journalists from Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Estonia, and Lithuania. Journalists from Germany, Finland, Sweden, and Latvia can apply until November 15 for next year's programme.
