The Tarbell AI Reporting Grants aim to support high-impact reporting on AI and its implications for society. The program funds stories that uncover underexplored risks, inform policy discussions, or explain AI developments to broader audiences. While written journalism is preferred, multimedia and other reporting formats may also be considered.
Grant Amounts: $1,000–$20,000 based on project scope and budget
Experienced journalists and media creators, including:
Staff writers, editors, and producers
Freelancers
Investigative journalists are particularly encouraged
Prior AI reporting experience is helpful but not mandatory
Applicants should demonstrate a track record of original journalism similar in depth to the proposed project
