About The Japan Foundation - Institutional Project Support Program

The Institutional Project Support Program is designed to strengthen the field of Japanese Studies in the United States through institutional initiatives that address significant needs and opportunities within the discipline.

Benefits of The Japan Foundation - Institutional Project Support Program

The IPS Program provides a pre-paid grant of up to:

  • $150,000 per year
  • Maximum grant period: Three years
  • Maximum total grant: $450,000

The total amount requested cannot exceed $450,000.

Projects may last for up to three years.

The Japan Foundation - Institutional Project Support Program Requirements

Eligible applicants are U.S.-based institutions and organizations that have:

  • 501(c)(3) status, or
  • Another qualifying tax-exempt status.

Applications may come from individual institutions or from collaborating institutions and consortia.

Organizations should ensure that they meet the programme’s tax-exempt and geographic eligibility requirements before submitting a proposal.
