About University of Technology Sydney - IRTP Scholarship
IRTP Scholarship 2027 is the International Research Training Program Scholarship for newly commencing research degree students. The IRTP Scholarship supports international higher degree by research (HDR) students with tuition, Overseas Student Health Cover and a living allowance, enabling recipients to focus on their research studies in Australia.
The scholarship is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Education and Training and administered at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). UTS Graduate Research School handles enquiries and provides application guidance and contacts for prospective and current research students.
Benefits of University of Technology Sydney - IRTP Scholarship
- Tuition Fee – Up to 3.5 years for PhD and 2 years for Master by Research.
- Living Allowance – Up to 3.5 years for PhD and 2 years for Master by Research (Commencing from 01 January 2026, $40,500 per annum, tax-free).
- Overseas Health Cover (OSHC) – single or family cover for duration of program.
University of Technology Sydney - IRTP Scholarship Requirements
- Be undertaking a higher degree by research (HDR) as an overseas student as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (Cth) at the University in the year of the IRTP Stipend (IRTP Stipends are not available to applicants whose enrolment into a postgraduate research program has not been accepted by the University) in an accredited HDR course;
- Not be receiving an equivalent award, stipend or salary providing a benefit greater than 75% of the IRTP Scholarship stipend rate to undertake the HDR.Income earned from sources unrelated to the course of study is not subject to the 75% rule;
- Not receive an equivalent award or scholarship from the Commonwealth designed to offset HDR fees.

- To be considered for an International Research Training Program Scholarship, please apply by the mentioned application deadlines.
- 2027 Research Session 2 – (July) applications closes 07 October 2026.
- There is no separate Application Form for IRTP scholarships for prospective students. Completing one form will mean that you are considered for all associated scholarships (including IRS and UTSP).
- New Research Students: If you wish to be considered for an IRTP and all associated scholarships, tick the YES box in the SCHOLARSHIP/SPONSORSHIP INFORMATION section of the online application for admission.
- Applicants must submit their completed application by the relevant application deadline.Incomplete application will not be considered.
