About Wenner-Gren Foundation Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded to recent PhDs in anthropology and related fields who frequently lack the time and resources to publish their work, but their research is often the source of the discipline's most exciting new ideas. This program supports emerging scholars whose work has the potential to transform our understanding of what it means to be human.
Benefits of Wenner-Gren Foundation Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship
- A Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship provides a stipend of up to $40,000 for 9 months of full-time writing. Wenner-Gren awards do not include funds to cover institutional overhead or any fees related to the administration of our grants and fellowships.
Wenner-Gren Foundation Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship Requirements
- Applicants should be no more than ten years beyond their PhD, with allowances made for periods of caregiving. Please contact [email protected] if this consideration applies to you. Qualified scholars of any nationality or institutional affiliation may apply. The Foundation gives preference to applicants who are untenured or do not yet have a permanent academic position.
- The research that forms the basis of the writing project should be completed by the time of application. In special circumstances and with prior approval of the Foundation, recipients may use part of their stipend to complete a minor component of the research.
- Applicants must be ready to devote a continuous block of time to the fellowship. They may request support for a project requiring less than the full 9 months available, in which case the Foundation will prorate the fellowship so the monthly stipend remains the same.
- Grantees must complete all requirements of their existing award, including submission of the final report, before applying for a new award. We don’t allow applicants to have more than one submission under consideration at the same time.

- General information about you and your writing project
- An abstract of your writing project
- Answers to five questions about your project
- A resubmission statement if we declined a Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship application you submitted previously
- A bibliography relevant to your proposed project
