Central European University Requirements
Applicants should meet these admission requirements:
- General Admissions Policy
- Admissions requirements adhere to CEU’s policy; individual units may have additional criteria, including specific academic backgrounds or higher language test scores than the CEU minimum.
- Only currently enrolled students are eligible to apply for advanced certificate programs.
- Bachelor’s Program Eligibility
- Completing secondary education (high school diploma or equivalent) is mandatory.
- Applicants must provide documentation confirming that they will earn such a degree before enrolling in a CEU bachelor’s program.
- Master’s Program Eligibility
- A first degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) from a recognized university
- For two-year master’s programs, applicants must earn at least 180 ECTS credits or equivalent.
- For one-year master’s programs, applicants must have earned a minimum of 240 ECTS credits or equivalent.
- Exceptional cases: Applicants with a three-year bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS credits) may be admitted to one-year master’s programs but might face limitations for doctoral studies in the European Higher Education Area if they have fewer than 300 ECTS credits.
- Students must not be enrolled in another institution during their CEU studies unless they have official documentation of a leave of absence from the other institution.
- Doctoral Program Eligibility
- A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and a master’s degree (or equivalent) in a related field from a recognized university
- Applicants with a five-year master’s degree are exempt from the bachelor’s requirement.
- The Department of Cognitive Science may consider applicants with only a bachelor’s degree if it is closely associated with cognitive science.
- Students must not be simultaneously enrolled in other institutions during their doctoral studies at CEU.
- Language Requirements
- All programs at CEU are in English.
- Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through standardized test scores.
- Candidates whose first language is English are typically exempt from this requirement.
