The National Poet Laureate is a three‑year appointment that recognises an outstanding Australian poet whose work and cultural contribution have shaped contemporary poetry and its readership. The Laureate serves as a respected public spokesperson and champion for Australian poetry, highlighting its diversity, richness and cultural significance.Creative Australia will support the Laureate in designing a program of activity across the three year term, including national events, public programming, collaborations and opportunities for community engagement.
Honorarium: $80,000 per annum
Additional Support:
Travel and accommodation for program activities
Workspace, administrative, and program coordination from Creative Australia
Event management and technical support for public programs
Media training and assistance
Access to archival resources at the National Library of Australia
Nominees must be:
Australian citizens or permanent residents
primarily resident in Australia for the period of the Laureateship
Nominees are not eligible if they:
aged 18 years and over
published poets with no fewer than three professionally published poetry books.
