About DW Akademie - Media Emergency Kit, Syrian Media Outlets

The Media Emergency Kit Programme supports Syrian media organisations by providing journalism training, mentorship, media production resources, and newsroom development support. The programme aims to strengthen independent journalism, improve editorial standards, enhance journalist safety practices, and build stronger community-focused media networks in Syria.

Benefits of DW Akademie - Media Emergency Kit, Syrian Media Outlets

Selected organisations will receive the “Media Emergency Kit”, comprising:

  • Five-module training programme delivered in person by regional and Syrian-exile trainers;
  • Equipment and materials to support quality reporting. Exact items to be confirmed by DW Akademie;
  • Ongoing individual and group mentorship to reinforce the skills learned ring the training;
  • A ready-made toolkit on conflict-sensitive reporting and transitional justice, an introduction to the project’s fact-checkers, and access to the “Fact-Check to Go” tool;
  • Inclusion in the Media Emergency Kit Network and support to deliver community information sessions;
  • Visibility support and inclusion in DW Akademie’s project communications.

DW Akademie - Media Emergency Kit, Syrian Media Outlets Requirements

To be eligible to submit an application, the applicant must:

  • Be a Syrian media organisation producing content for and operating within Syria;
  • Have a track record of at least two (2) years engaging with its target communities;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to independent journalism and ethical standards;
  • Have the operational freedom and organisational buy-in needed to participate fully and achieve tangible results within the programme period;
  • Be able to integrate the programme into its working practices so that impact is sustained beyond the project end-date;
  • Have the capacity to reach and engage other local media organisations;
  • Not be subject to EU sanctions or blacklisting.
