The Goethe-Institut International Coproduction Fund supports collaborative music, theatre, dance, and performance projects involving international cultural exchange. The International Coproduction Fund promotes professional development, artistic experimentation, and international collaboration.
Grant Amount: €15,000 – €30,000
Funding Cap: Maximum 75% of total project costs
Applicants must:
Be professionally active artists, ensembles, or institutions based outside Germany (excluding Austria and Switzerland)
Collaborate closely with German-based artists, ensembles, or initiatives
Demonstrate balanced partnerships in both creative process and financial responsibility
Ensure at least one public performance outside Germany; an additional performance in Germany is encouraged
Applications from developing and transition countries are particularly encouraged.
Applicants may be individual artists or legal entities, and nationality is not a restriction.
Both new productions and further development of existing works are eligible if collaborative and artistically driven. Projects can include digital media, hybrid formats, or interdisciplinary approaches.
Consult Local Goethe-Institut: Inform and consult the relevant Goethe-Institut office before submitting.
Prepare Application: Applications must include project description, budget, artistic plan, and collaboration details.
Submit Online: All applications are submitted in English through the Goethe-Institut online portal.
Deadline and Timing: Two fixed application periods annually, with defined project start and end dates. Projects must not have started prior to application unless written approval is granted.
Decision Timeline: Assessment takes approximately three months.
