The joint project of the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP “Strengthening the National Anti-Corruption Ecosystem in Uzbekistan”, funded by the European Union, announces a competition “ Civic Initiatives in the Fight against Corruption: Digital Technologies, Media, Public Legislation and Gender Aspects of Corruption ” among civil society institutions from all regions of the country.

The goal of the competition is to create a sustainable, inclusive and technologically oriented anti-corruption ecosystem by actively involving civil society institutions in the development, implementation and monitoring of anti-corruption measures.

The main objectives of the Competition:

  • Implementation of joint projects with civil society institutions to prevent and combat corruption within the framework of social partnership and public control, including anti-corruption expertise of legislation;

  • Supporting projects to develop investigative and civic journalism that covers corruption and strengthens the role of the media in shaping public demand for transparency and accountability;

  • Promoting civil society participation in the processes of development, examination and monitoring of anti-corruption legal acts, laws and policies, including the use of digital platforms and public discussion mechanisms;

  • Involving women, youth, persons with disabilities and vulnerable groups in the development and implementation of initiatives that ensure fair access to information, public services and public oversight opportunities;

  • Development of mechanisms of social partnership between NGOs, the media and government agencies for independent assessment and public control of the effectiveness of anti-corruption measures.

Civil society institutions are invited to participate with projects in the following areas:

  1. Journalism and media against corruption - support for investigative and analytical journalism, projects to educate the public on corruption issues, develop media literacy and cover corruption risks in priority areas.

  2. Digital and technological solutions - identifying corrupt practices and eliminating the factors that cause them to arise based on digital solutions.

  3. Participation in rule-making and examination - involvement of NGOs and active citizens in the development, monitoring and public examination of regulatory acts in the anti-corruption sphere.

  4. Inclusion and vulnerable groups - development of initiatives aimed at the needs of young people, persons with disabilities, low-income groups and their broad involvement in the fight against corruption, as well as the creation of conditions for participation in public control.

  5. Gender aspects of corruption are initiatives aimed at studying the gender aspects of preventing and combating corruption, involving women in modern anti-corruption practices and strengthening the role of women as one of the drivers of the fight against corruption.

Benefits of Grants for the Implementation of Anti-corruption Initiatives among Civil Society Institutions

The grant amount allocated for one project is up to 7,000 US dollars.

Grants for the Implementation of Anti-corruption Initiatives among Civil Society Institutions Requirements

  • National NGOs (women's and youth organizations, academic (educational) and scientific institutions of various forms of ownership, registered and operating in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, are invited to participate in the small grants competition, provided that the goals and objectives provided for in their charter correspond to the subject of the grant project).
  • Commercial organizations (LLC, JSC, etc.), organizations undergoing liquidation, and individuals are not allowed to participate in the competition.

Application Date and Process

Before submitting applications, applicants must take part in online information sessions conducted by the project team. Participation is a mandatory condition of the competition and is aimed at familiarization with grant procedures, correct execution of competition documentation, as well as improving legal and financial literacy.
