About HKBU International Writers Workshop
This program is an initiative of the Hong Kong Baptist University. The International Writers Workshop (IWW) was established in 2004 and has welcomed over 150 writers representing more than 55 countries. HKBU is now inviting international writers to apply for its 2027 Writers-in-Residence Programme. Through this international workshop, candidates will have the opportunity to participate in a prestigious program for writers. They will be able to showcase their skills and gain recognition on an international platform.

- The program will cover the cost of roundtrip travel in economy class for participating writers. Hence, they do not have to worry about the cost of travel.
- Accommodation is provided on campus for the four-week duration.
- Moreover, participants will receive a per diem or a daily allowance to further help them with their stay.
- It is a unique program for writers to gain recognition and show their work on an international platform.
- Applicants will have the chance to visit Hong Kong for free.
HKBU International Writers Workshop Requirements
- To be eligible for the IWW program, applicants should have published at least one literary book with a press. Self-published books are not eligible.
- They must be currently living outside of Hong Kong.
- Similarly, candidates should have a command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese).
- Writers are expected to be present for the full duration of the residency, from 2 March to 29 March 2027.
- Moreover, they must attend the welcome ceremony during the first week.
- Participation in the Literary Festival during the final week is mandatory. Writers are encouraged to share a piece of writing in conversation with the Literary Festival’s theme.
Application Date and Process
- A 1-page, single-spaced Artist’s Statement in English or Chinese describing your work and your writing goals for the IWW Writers-in-Residence Programme. If your statement is composed in Chinese, please provide a 1-paragraph summary in English;
- 10-12 pages of recent work, such as creative nonfiction, digital writing, drama, fiction, graphic forms, libretti, or poetry. Please provide an English or a Chinese translation of your work if your original work is not in English nor Chinese;
- A CV or resume;
- Contact information, including the e-mail addresses, of two referees; and
- All application materials should be in 12-point type with 1-inch margins.
- Please send your application materials as a single PDF to [email protected] by 14 August 2026. Applicants will be notified of the results by November 2026.
