ICGEB Arturo Falaschi PhD Fellowships 2026 introduces a fully funded PhD fellowship program in the life sciences offered by the International Centre for Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology (ICGEB).The fellowship supports students from ICGEB Member States to pursue doctoral studies at partner universities in Italy (Trieste), India (New Delhi), and South Africa (Cape Town).
Monthly stipend:
Trieste, Italy: €1,500
New Delhi, India: US$1,122
Cape Town, South Africa: ZAR 15,000
Travel expenses: Covered for arrival and return.
Medical insurance: Provided for the fellowship duration.
Tuition fees: Fully covered.
Visa/permit costs: Reimbursed.
Support for conferences/courses usually provided by Group Leader/PI.
No financial support for family members
Applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB Member State.
Degree requirements:
Trieste: BSc (Honours)
Cape Town & New Delhi: MSc
Must have good English proficiency (TOEFL, Cambridge, or equivalent).
Age limit:
Trieste: below 32 years at application.
New Delhi & Cape Town: no age limit.
Applicants must contact an ICGEB Group Leader/PI with a motivation letter to secure lab space and define a research project.
A written statement of support from the Group Leader is mandatory.
