About IOM Thailand - Ethical Migration Journalism Fellowship Programme

The Ethical Migration Journalism Fellowship Programme was developed by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.The programme builds on IOM-led training sessions and e-learning courses on migration reporting. It aims to deepen participants’ understanding of migration concepts while strengthening their ability to produce ethical and conflict-sensitive journalism.The fellowship focuses on original, evidence-based stories about migration in Chiang Rai and surrounding areas.

IOM Thailand - Ethical Migration Journalism Fellowship Programme Requirements

Scholarship applicants must:

• Be a journalist or student residing in Chiang Rai Province, regardless of nationality.
• Through the Migration Reporting Training organized by the IOM or through the online training course on Understanding Migration and Reporting on Migration on the Global Migration Media Academy (GMMA) website.
• Demonstrate an interest and commitment to reporting on migration and producing accurate news coverage. Comprehensive and ethical.
• Present an original and actionable story concept related to migration in Chiang Rai province and/or surrounding areas.

• Able to allocate time and complete the production of the proposed story within the duration of the project.

Application Date and Process

Applicants must submit the following documents:

• Latest resume or CV
• Cover Letter stating your motivation for applying and summarizing the story idea you want to present (no more than 1 page in length)
• Story Proposal Form (download here)
• Certificate of Participation in Migration Reporting Training organised by IOM or online training courses on the GMMA website (for applicants who choose to take online courses). It is necessary to learn both to understand migration and to report on migration completely.)
• 2 examples of related works (only for journalist candidates)
