About Machaon International - Art Residency Disappearing Landscape Program

The Disappearing Landscape Art Residency supports artists and creative practitioners working at the intersection of environmental awareness, culture, community, and activism.The residency takes place in the High Tatras region of Slovakia, a mountain landscape facing rapid transformation through construction, tourism pressure, habitat disruption, and environmental change.The programme encourages creative responses to disappearing Carpathian landscapes, wildlife corridors, authentic mountain life, and the role of alternative cultural spaces in community rebuilding.

Benefits of Machaon International - Art Residency Disappearing Landscape Program

Selected participants will receive:

  • accommodation during the residency
  • meals provided by organisers
  • access to workspaces and partner venues
  • organisational support
  • networking opportunities
  • public presentation opportunities
  • excursions in the High Tatras region

Financial support includes:

  • travel support up to €300 (for international artists)
  • production/material support up to €300
  • artist fee of € 1,300

Important: The € 1,300 artist fee is the maximum amount per selected project, whether realised by an individual artist or a collective/group. Taxes must be paid by the artist(s) in their country of residence.

Applications are open to:

SELECTION CRITERIA

Projects will be evaluated based on:

  • artistic quality and originality
  • relevance to residency themes
  • feasibility
  • community engagement potential
  • environmental and social sensitivity
