About MDPI Sustainability Foundation - World Sustainability Award
The World Sustainability Award (WSA), presented by the MDPI Sustainability Foundation, celebrates outstanding achievements in sustainability research. This prestigious honor recognizes senior researchers whose groundbreaking work delivers measurable impact and advances solutions to global sustainability challenges.
In 2026, the award will recognize three winners, each representing one of the core pillars of sustainability — Biosphere, Society, and Economy. Each recipient will receive USD 50,000, totaling USD 150,000, along with a custom trophy. The awards will be formally presented during the World Sustainability Forum 2026, bringing global attention to the winners’ contributions.

MDPI Sustainability Foundation - World Sustainability Award Requirements
The 2026 WSA requirements are as follows:
- Must be senior researchers with exceptional, sustained contributions to sustainability scholarship and practice.
- Proven record of high-quality research (fundamental or applied) in relevant disciplines or interdisciplinary contexts.
- Research must address at least two sustainability pillars:
- Biosphere – environmental and ecological systems.
- Society – social and cultural dimensions of development.
- Economy – economic structures, processes, or innovations.
- Work must be original and provide feasible, real-world solutions to sustainability challenges.
- Contribution should align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- Evidence of scholarly leadership, mentorship, policy contributions, or influence in the academic/professional community.
Application Date and Process
- Review the eligibility criteria and nomination guidelines.
- Secure a qualified third-party nominator familiar with your work.
- Prepare required nomination materials, including evidence of research impact.
- Submit the nomination through the official online platform (opening 25 July 2027).
- Ensure all materials are complete before the deadline .
- Await confirmation and potential notification of selection.
