About NRF Founders Engineering Scholarship
The NRF Founders Engineering Scholarship is a tuition award for undergraduate engineering students entering their junior or senior year who want to pursue careers in natural refrigeration. It offers $4,000 for junior-year recipients and up to $9,000 for senior-year recipients who attend the IIAR Annual Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo.
The Natural Refrigeration Foundation is the foundation arm of the International Institute of All-Natural Refrigeration (IIAR). It supports education, research and professional development in the natural refrigeration industry, helping students connect with professionals and address environmental and energy challenges.
Benefits of NRF Founders Engineering Scholarship
- Junior-year recipients receive $4,000, paid in two equal installments of $2,000.
- Senior-year recipients who attended the IIAR Annual Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo and continue to meet eligibility requirements receive $9,000, paid in two equal installments of $4,500.
- Senior-year recipients who did not attend the conference during junior year receive $4,000, paid in two equal installments of $2,000.
- Recipients are invited to attend the IIAR Annual Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo with support for eligible registration, travel, lodging and meal expenses.
- Scholarship funds apply to tuition and are paid directly to the recipient’s college or university.
NRF Founders Engineering Scholarship Requirements
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate student entering their junior or senior year during the 2027–2028 academic year.
- Attend an accredited four-year college or university.
- Be pursuing a degree in engineering.
- Demonstrate an interest in applying their education and skills within the natural refrigeration, commercial refrigeration, industrial refrigeration or related cooling and heat-pump industries.
- Have completed at least 45 semester credit hours, 90 quarter credit hours or the equivalent at the time of application.
- Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or 3.75 on a 5.0 scale.
- Submit a complete application and all required supporting materials by January 31, 2027.
Application Date and Process
- Submit a completed NRF Scholarship application through the online application portal.
- Provide academic and contact information.
- Provide information about academic achievements, work experience, leadership and extracurricular activities.
- Respond to the required personal essay questions.
- Submit a current college or university transcript.
- Submit two letters of recommendation through the online recommendation process.
- Allow sufficient time for recommenders to complete and submit their recommendations before the application deadline.
