About Queensland Government Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant Program
The Queensland Government’s Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant provides immediate financial support to individuals and families unable to meet essential needs after a disaster.
Benefits of Queensland Government Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant Program
Eligible applicants may receive:
- $180 per person, and
- Up to $900 for families of five or more
Queensland Government Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant Program Requirements
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
You may be eligible for the Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant if:
- You live in, or were stranded in, an eligible disaster-affected area
- You experienced personal hardship as a direct result of the disaster
- The hardship has left you unable to meet essential needs such as food, clothing, medical supplies, or temporary accommodation
Citizenship and Residency
- Australian citizenship is not required
- Non-citizens affected by the disaster may apply
Who Is Not Eligible?
The grant does not apply to:
- Business losses or business-related expenses
- Farm or property damage, except for a principal place of residence
- Replacement of tools of trade
- Compensation for loss of income or wages
- People isolated on their property without experiencing hardship directly caused by the disaster
Important Exclusion Note
Loss of power or essential services alone is not covered under this grant. These situations may be eligible under a different disaster assistance program.
Evidence and Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate that:
- The disaster directly caused their hardship, and
- The hardship prevents them from meeting basic living needs
Additional documentation may be required during the assessment process.
Application Date and Process
- Confirm your location is within an eligible disaster-declared area
- Assess whether the disaster has left you unable to meet essential needs
- Gather required personal and banking information
- Complete the Emergency Hardship Assistance Grant application
- Submit the application for assessment
- Await notification of the outcome
