Opportunity Details
The SSF Postdoctoral Fellowship Program allows exceptional researchers from abroad to collaborate with leading research groups in Japanese universities and institutions. The program includes all fields of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
Duration: 12–24 months, counted in full-month units, with continuous residence in Japan
Financial Support:
Monthly maintenance allowance: JPY 362,000
Settling-in allowance: JPY 200,000 (not provided if already in Japan)
Round-trip economy-class airfare (not provided if already in Japan)
Overseas travel insurance
Research Support: Host researchers may apply for Grant-in-Aid for JSPS Research Fellows to cover cooperative research expenses
Candidate Requirements:
Citizenship of countries with diplomatic relations with Japan, including Taiwanese and Palestinian researchers as treated by JSPS
Must also possess Swedish citizenship or permanent residency
Doctoral degree earned within six years of fellowship start date (extensions allowed for parental leave)
Cannot have previously held certain JSPS fellowships
Individuals with Japanese citizenship or permanent residency are ineligible
Initial Contact: Candidate contacts prospective host in Japan
Application Submission: Submit application to the JSPS Stockholm Office
Evaluation: Scientific assessment by nominating authority, then forwarded to JSPS Head Office for final selection
Notification: Approximately three months after nomination, successful candidates are informed
