Opportunity Details
The Wolfson Foundation Research Environments Grant is a capital funding program aimed at strengthening the physical and technological infrastructure of universities and research institutions. It focuses on enhancing facilities that support high-impact, internationally competitive research and promoting academic excellence.
Typical grant range: £250,000 – £1 million.
Covers new buildings, refurbishments, major equipment acquisition, and research libraries/public engagement spaces.
Excludes salaries, maintenance, routine costs, land purchases, and retrospective expenses.
Eligible Institutions: Universities and research organizations conducting internationally competitive research
Project Requirements:
Strategically important to the institution
Institutionally supported with demonstrated commitment
Projects already underway or well-prepared at the time of application
Two-stage process:
Initial proposal (summary of goals, scope, funding needs).
Full proposal (detailed plans, budgets, institutional support) upon invitation.
Decisions made twice annually, offering predictable application windows.
