About U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe - Max Kampelman Fellowships

Named for a longtime U.S. Ambassador to the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, Kampelman fellows represent the next generation of American leaders in security policy, human rights, and strategic communications.

Kampelman fellows join a team of world-class experts at a U.S. government commission that advances national security by promoting human rights, military security, and economic cooperation in 57 countries in Europe, Eurasia, and North America.

  • Fellows receive paid compensation of $27 per hour for the duration of the program
  • Fellows gain hands-on experience in policy research, analysis, and communications.
  • Fellows get exposure to high-level policy environments, including congressional hearings and official briefings.

U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe - Max Kampelman Fellowships Requirements

  • Applicants must be graduate students, recent graduates (within one year), or exceptionally qualified undergraduate students with relevant experience.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in international relations, human rights, or public policy.
  • Applicants must possess excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Policy Fellows: Applicants should demonstrate excellent writing, analysis, research, and oral presentation skills, as well as an interest in government, international relations, and human rights.
  • Communications Fellows: Applicants should demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills, a basic understanding of WordPress, knowledge of social media platforms, and an interest in government. Photography skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of a second language relevant to the OSCE region is considered an advantage.
  • Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or valid work authorization).

    • Your specific areas of interest as they relate to the work of the Commission
    • Your availability (start and end dates, as well as hours per week)

  • Writing sample of three pages or less
  • OPTIONAL FOR COMMUNICATION FELLOW APPLICANTS: Samples of your work including copywriting, graphic design, videos, and/or photography
